Quality, Environment, Health and Safety (QEHS)

Kobil Uganda has in place a comprehensive Quality, Environment, Health and Safety (QEHS) policy which details how the Company relates to its various stakeholders including staff, business partners, regulatory authorities and local communities.

For our physical environment, we have instituted strict measures to ensure that we sustainable conserve our physical environments.  The environment component of our EHS policy is implemented alongside our daily business operations. Every of our petroleum products handling and marketing facility including, our LPG storage and filling plant, depots and service stations are duly approved and regularly inspected by the Uganda National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to ensure compliance with the NEMA Act. We as well conduct elaborate Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies before we set up any of our facility. In addition, our staffs are continuously trained on issues of compliance with local and international environmental laws and policies. Further, we time and again engage, together with local communities, in environmental conservation initiatives such as clean-ups and tree planting as part of our CSR.

For our employees and suppliers, their safety is our utmost concern and priority. We conduct periodic trainings for our staff safety particularly in emergency response processes and fire fighting. We extend such trainings to contracted staff as well as other suppliers who constantly work with us. Furthermore, we provide appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) including personal and industrial safety gear which we ensure is properly used and maintained. In addition, we have installed health and safety devices such as fire points and first aid kits to ensure the safety of our staff, both in-house and outsourced. We as well update our Emergency Response Plan inline with risks identified during the period safety audits.

For our communities, we take every precaution to safeguard them from operational hazards. Kobil Uganda ensures that our petroleum handling infrastructure including service stations and fuel depots have oil interceptors and color coding to guard against cases of fuel leakages that may contact the soils and compromise the livelihoods of our host communities. Further, our delivery trucks and tankers are thoroughly and regularly inspected and are run by qualified, trained and experienced personnel to mitigate against accidents. Its because of this strict safety regiment that we have accident free operations for many years.
